Édouard Macarez began playing the double bass at the age of ten with Jean-Lou Dehant at the Douai Conservatory. In 2006, he entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in the class of Thiery Barbé, where he was unanimously awarded a first prize with honours in 2009. In 2011, Édouard decided to continue his studies in Germany with Niek de Groot, former soloist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam.
Édouard Macarez has won several national and international competitions. He has given numerous recitals, notably in Paris, in the auditorium of the Royal College in Glasgow, in Berlin, in the auditorium of the Horschule during the “Berlin Bass 2010” event, in Düsseldorf, in Essen, etc.
With orchestra he has appeared as soloist with the Glasgow Royal College Symphony Orchestra and the Baltic Chamber Orchestra.
Édouard regularly gives concerts in duet with Félicien Brut, in many French festivals but also abroad, in Tokyo, Warsaw, London, … Passionate about the orchestra, Édouard joined the Orchestre National de Lille at the age of 19 before obtaining, three years later, a position as soloist in the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France.
