Edouard Macarez began playing the double bass at the age of 10 with Jean-Loup Dehant, professor at the Conservatoire de Douai, before entering the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris in 2006 in Thierry Barbé’s class. In 2009, he was unanimously awarded the first prize with the congratulations of the jury. In 2011, Edouard decided to study in Germany with Niek de Groet, former soloist of the Royal Orchestra of the Concergebouw Amsterdam.
Edouard has won several national and international competitions: 1st Prize three years in a row at the competitions organized by the Association des Contrebassistes de France in 2003, 2004 and 2005 in Paris, Lyon and Béziers, 1st Prize at the Epernay String Competition in 2006, 1st Prize at the “International Paris Bass” Competition in 2008 and 1st Prize in 2009 at the “Scottish International Competition” in Glasgow
He has performed numerous times in recital, notably in Paris, in the auditorium of the Royal College in Glasgow, in Berlin in the auditorium of the Horschule during the Berlin Bass 2010 event, in Dusseldorf, in Essen, etc. He has performed as a soloist with the Glasgow Royal College Symphony Orchestra and the Baltic Chamber Orchestra.
Edouard regularly gives concerts in duo with Félicien Brut, in many French festivals but also abroad, in Tokyo, Warsaw, London… Passionate about the orchestra, Edouard joined the Orchestre National de Lille at the age of 19 before obtaining a position as soloist with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France three years later.
